Online poker for Canadian players.
The Canadian online poker ecosystem is small but real. PokerStars runs the largest AGCO Ontario poker room; PlayNow offers a shared BC/MB/QC/AB liquidity pool; and Global Poker fills a legal grey area with sweeps-cash mechanics.
The Ontario ring-fenced market
PokerStars Ontario operates as an AGCO-licensed poker room ring-fenced from PokerStars' global player pool. This means fewer players at peak times than PokerStars.com but full regulatory protection and Ontario-legal play. WSOP.com Ontario is the second option, smaller but growing.
PlayNow's shared liquidity pool
PlayNow.com pools poker liquidity across BC, Manitoba, Alberta, and Quebec Crown corporation agreements. This creates one of the larger Canadian-legal player pools available outside Ontario. Cash games run to $10/$20 NLHE regularly; tournaments run daily and weekly major events on Sundays.
Offshore poker rooms
GGPoker, 888poker, and PokerStars International all take Canadian players outside Ontario in a legal grey area. Player pools are much larger (10,000+ concurrent for GGPoker). No Canadian regulatory protection, but withdrawal reliability has been consistent for years.
Best options right now
Ontario residents: PokerStars Ontario. BC/MB/AB/QC residents: PlayNow poker. Elsewhere: PokerStars.com or GGPoker with the offshore caveat.
