Interac is the payment that matters. Everything else is a fallback.
Every Canadian sportsbook worth using accepts Interac e-Transfer. The differences between books show up in withdrawal speed and support quality, not the payment options themselves.
Interac e-Transfer
Accepted by every major Canadian book. Fastest withdrawals on Ontario licensees. Zero fees.
PayPal
Available on all Ontario-licensed books. Fast, and lets you keep a buffer outside your bank.
Instadebit
Bank-account-linked wallet built for Canadian gambling. Widely accepted on non-Ontario books.
iDebit
Like Instadebit, from the same parent company. Accepted where Interac is not offered.
Visa Debit and Mastercard
Deposits are universal. Withdrawals are slower than Interac and some Canadian banks block cards outbound to gambling.
Crypto
Bitcoin, USDT, and Ethereum on offshore books only. Fastest withdrawals available if you already hold the asset.
How Interac withdrawals actually work
You request the withdrawal in the sportsbook cashier. The operator's payments team reviews it (this is the step that takes hours or days, depending on the book), then triggers an Interac e-Transfer to the email or phone number registered to your CIBC, RBC, TD, Scotiabank, BMO, National Bank, Desjardins, or Tangerine account. You accept the transfer in your online banking, and the funds are in your chequing account seconds later.
First withdrawals are always the slowest because the book runs identity verification. Once that is complete, the Ontario licensees typically pay within 24 hours and often within one to two hours. Provincial lottery books like PROLINE+ and PlayNow batch process, which is why they run 3 to 5 business days.
Why some banks block betting deposits
Canadian banks are allowed to block gambling merchant codes on Visa or Mastercard debits. The banks that do this most often are TD, Scotiabank, and BMO. Interac e-Transfer is not affected because it is a bank-to-bank transfer rather than a card transaction, which is why it is the universally recommended method.
