Cards on Canadian betting sites
Universal for deposits, slower and less consistent for withdrawals. What Canadian bettors need to know about Visa Debit, Mastercard, and which banks quietly block gambling transactions.
Which cards work where
Visa Debit and Visa credit are accepted on every Canadian sportsbook and casino. Mastercard is accepted almost everywhere too, though a few Kahnawake operators are Visa-only. American Express is rarely accepted for gambling deposits in Canada. Prepaid Visa gift cards work on many operators but often fail the verification step at withdrawal.
Which Canadian banks block gambling
Banks are permitted to block card transactions with gambling merchant codes. The banks that do this most often are TD, Scotiabank, and BMO on credit cards, and RBC on debit for certain offshore operators. If your card is rejected, the fix is Interac e-Transfer rather than trying a second card.
CIBC and National Bank are generally the most permissive on gambling card transactions. Tangerine and EQ Bank cards work on almost every operator.
Credit card cash advance fees
Some banks classify gambling deposits as cash advances even when made on a credit card, which triggers an immediate interest charge and a 1% to 4% fee. Check your card agreement before using a credit card to deposit. Visa Debit avoids this entirely because it draws from your chequing account directly.
Withdrawal speed
Card withdrawals typically take 3 to 5 business days on Ontario-licensed operators and 5 to 10 business days on offshore books. Interac e-Transfer is materially faster on almost every operator, which is why we recommend it as the default withdrawal method.
