Crypto payments on betting sites
Fast, cheap, and available only on offshore books. Not accepted by any AGCO-licensed operator or provincial Crown platform. Read this before you use it.
Which operators accept crypto
Offshore-only. Cloudbet, Stake, Rollbit, BC.Game, Thunderpick, Betwinner, and Bodog all accept Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT. Some also accept Litecoin, Dogecoin, and stablecoins on the Solana or Polygon networks. None of the Ontario-licensed operators (bet365, FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, and the rest) accept crypto because AGCO rules require deposits to come from a Canadian bank-linked source.
Why bettors use crypto
Two reasons. First, crypto withdrawals are the fastest available anywhere. Once the operator approves the withdrawal, funds hit your wallet within minutes on the Bitcoin and Ethereum networks and seconds on faster chains. Second, crypto operators typically offer larger bonuses and higher limits because their payment costs are lower.
The risks
Three real risks. First, offshore books are not licensed in Canada. If a book vanishes or refuses to pay, you have no CRTC or AGCO complaint route. Second, crypto price volatility means the C$100 you deposited might be worth C$85 or C$115 by the time you withdraw. Some books settle in stablecoins to remove this, which we recommend. Third, the Canada Revenue Agency treats crypto disposals as taxable events. Even if your gambling winnings are tax-free as windfalls, the underlying crypto trade can trigger a capital gain or loss.
Fees and speed
Deposits are free on the operator side; you pay the network gas fee on your wallet (typically $1 to $5 on Bitcoin, cents on Solana or Polygon). Withdrawals are free at most operators, though a few charge a flat network fee. Speed is minutes to seconds once approved.
