How the Ontario iGaming market actually works.

AGCO, iGaming Ontario, and the operators that sit inside them. If you live in Ontario, this is the framework you are betting inside.

The two-body structure

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is the regulator. iGaming Ontario (iGO) is the operator entity that stands between the AGCO and the private operators. iGO signs a commercial agreement with each licensed operator, and iGO in turn is accountable to the AGCO for compliance.

Getting licensed

To offer online sports betting or casino to Ontario residents, an operator must (a) hold an AGCO registration, (b) hold an iGO operating agreement, and (c) meet ongoing compliance standards including responsible-gambling controls, dispute resolution processes, and anti-money-laundering requirements. As of August 2026, there are 45+ registered operators, of which most run one or more brands.

Advertising rules that matter to you

Ontario prohibits public advertising of specific bonuses. This is why you do not see 'Bet $5, get $200' on billboards or during Leafs games. What you see instead are brand-level campaigns. Bonuses do exist, but they live inside the app or in emails after signup. This is a materially different consumer experience from most other jurisdictions.

Player protection

Every licensed Ontario operator must offer deposit limits, session limits, time-out functionality, and a link to the province-wide self-exclusion register (MyPlayBreak). Self-exclusion applies to every licensed operator at once. The ConnexOntario helpline (1-866-531-2600) is available 24/7 and is prominently linked from every operator's site.

What you get versus the rest of Canada

Ontario has the deepest regulated market in North America outside Nevada, New Jersey, and Michigan. Line quality is competitive because operators compete on price. Prop menus are the widest available anywhere in Canada. Dispute resolution goes through iGO if you cannot resolve an issue with an operator directly. That is a real protection that no other Canadian tier offers.
