BC has one legal online book, and it is PlayNow.
The British Columbia Lottery Corporation runs PlayNow as the sole legal online sportsbook and casino for BC residents. Kahnawake operators like Sports Interaction take BC bets in the same legal grey area that applies across most of Canada.
Who regulates online betting in British Columbia
British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC), under the province's Gaming Control Act.
The current situation
PlayNow.com is the BCLC's own product, launched in 2004 as one of the first regulated online gambling sites in North America. It has more than two decades of operational history, uses CAD wallets natively, supports Interac, and returns profits to the province through BCLC.
British Columbia has not signalled any intention to open a competitive private market on the Ontario model. The BCLC has stated publicly that it prefers the current single-operator arrangement. This means BC residents have one fully-regulated option online: PlayNow.
Kahnawake-licensed sportsbooks like Sports Interaction take bets from BC residents, and Bodog and other offshore books do the same. These are widely used, but any dispute would fall outside Canadian regulatory recourse.

What to watch for in British Columbia
- PlayNow is conservative on pricing. Serious bettors typically pair it with a second book for line shopping.
- PlayNow's casino is one of the best regulated products in Canada, with Evolution live dealer support and hundreds of slots.
- The BCLC has some of the tightest responsible-gambling defaults in the country. Deposit limits are set at signup and lowering them is instant.
